Universal Design - Design for All
Concept
What do human beings have in common? They are all different! Each of us has its own abilities, preferences, incomes, constraints.During a journey, handicapping situations are experienced depending on the environment (accommodations, products, services, information).
Universal design includes the needs of every user-target by creating an environment that is respectful, safe, healthy, intuitive, practical, attractive, sustainable and equitable. Compensatory adaptation, with specific solutions to very disabling situations, then serves as an exception.
Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities defines universal design as 'the design of products, equipment, programmes and services that can be used by all, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or special design. '
