Description

In 2006, Benoît Beroud wrote the first independent and public study on public bicycles on a European scale. As part of his Master’s thesis in Transport Economics at the University Lumière Lyon II and the Transport Economics Laboratort, Benoît Beroud:
  • Obtained a student scholarship,
  • Participated in Vélomondial 2006, World Cycling Conference in Cape Town (South Africa),
  • Hitchhiked or flown across Europe for 2.5 months to meet with public bike services and cycling policies managers,
  • Identified all existing services in the world,
  • Compared 10 services in 7 different countries,
  • Analyzed performances and usages,
  • Proposed an economic analysis of the public bike market: governance models, organizational forms, operators business models, role of public authorities,
  • Improve the report in 2007 and created an internet website to share it.
